The Price Ain’t Right

No one likes to talk about finances in church, but Jesus spoke some powerful words about money in the Sermon on the Mount. Ultimately, if it won’t last, don’t let it lead your life! Pastor Kyle challenges us to invest our time and treasure in ways that make an eternal impact.

Notes 📓✏️:

Matthew 6:19-24: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

If it won’t last, don’t let it lead. Put your time and treasure where it makes an eternal impact.

Matthew 6:19: “Do not store up for yourselves treasure on earth.”

Matthew 6:20: “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.”

Matthew 6:22-24: “Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a musty cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have! “You can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can’t worship God and money both.”

How do you know when you’ve crossed the line from being wisely concerned to being completely consumed with money?

Matthew 6:24: “No one can serve two masters…you cannot serve both God and Money”

Matthew 19:21-22: “If you want to give it all you’ve got,” Jesus replied, “go sell your possessions; give everything to the poor. All your wealth will then be in heaven. Then come follow Me.” That was the last thing the young man expected to hear. And so, crestfallen, he walked away. He was holding on tight to a lot of things, and he couldn’t bear to let go.
