Well Worn Path

What if following Jesus doesn’t mean adding one more thing to your already busy day, but simply inviting Him into the life you’re already living? The little things we do over and over can become holy habits that help us stay close to God and create a path that leads us—and the people around us—toward Jesus.

Notes 📓✏️:
God’s presence is a promise; communion with Him is a practice.

Sacred moments were never meant to be compartmentalized.

God wants to meet us in the rhythms of the ordinary.

Inviting the Holy into the humdrum.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:5-9 (NIV)

Love the Lord.

Before Moses talks about their habits, he talks about their hearts.

Impress them upon your children’s hearts.

What you repeat creates a well-worn path.

Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

  1. What you talk about.
    • what’s one thing you heard at church that you’ve thought about again this week?
    • What are you grateful for today?
    • What do you think God might be teaching you right now?
    • Where could you use God’s help this week?
    • Did anything happen today that you need prayer for?
  2. What you do.
  3. Tie them as symbols on your hands…

View what you do as sacred work.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
    Colossians 3:17 (NIV)

  4. How you see.
  5. …bind them on your foreheads.

Are todays decisions talking me to my desired destination?

What daily decisions will move me in that direction?

  6. Where you live.
  7. Write them on the doorframes and on your gates.

    • Open in prayer
    • Make a list of “words to live by,” with a 1-2 sentence description. (Reliable. If someone needs something they can count on us.)
    • What is a challenge you are facing and how can we be praying for each other?
    • What is a dream you would like to see come true this year?
    • What are two steps you need to take to see that happen? Maybe something you need to lean into and something you need to let go of.
    • Discuss any important family details.
    • Close in prayer.

What we walk occasionally leaves a footprint.
What we walk consistently creates a path.

This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV)
