God can do whatever He wants to, but He chooses to co-labor with ordinary people like us. He wants to use YOU in the miracle-making! Charlotte Gambill helps us discover how to be a part of something much bigger than ourselves.
Notes 📓✏️:
1. The Ask
Matthew 21:2 NIV: “Saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me.”
2. The Question
Luke 19:31-33: “If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’ Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
Matthew 21:3 NIV: “If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
3. The Answer
Matthew 21:3-6: “If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them.”
Zechariah 9:9: “Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Matthew 21:4-10: “This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”
Discussion Questions 📝❓:
- Charlotte asks us to imagine Jesus walking into the room – how would your behavior, posture, and concerns change if you physically saw Jesus enter? Why do we sometimes forget He is already present?
- In Matthew 21, Jesus asks disciples to get a donkey and a colt for His triumphal entry. How does this story demonstrate God’s pattern of involving ordinary people in His miraculous works?
- The sermon discusses how the owner of the donkey couldn’t have known his animal would be used for Jesus’ triumphal entry. What does this tell us about giving even when we may never personally see the impact?
- How does the concept of “seeing a miracle” versus “being a miracle” challenge our typical approach to church involvement and giving?
