Advent Day 5: The God who keeps His promises

But God replied, “No—Sarah, your wife, will give birth to a son for you. You will name him Isaac and I will confirm my covenant with him and his descendants as an everlasting covenant. -Genesis 17:19

Ever heard the saying, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick”? Well, Jesus was born because God redeemed a hope that seemed delayed forever.

In Genesis, Abraham and Sarah wanted a child for ages, but Sarah couldn’t conceive. At 90, God promised Sarah a son, and through him, an everlasting covenant. Sarah laughed, thinking it was impossible, but she gave birth to Isaac, meaning “laughter,” bringing joy and redemption from an impossible situation.

Isaac’s grandson was Judah, leading to King David. Jesus, born from David’s line through Mary and Joseph, fulfilled God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah. Sarah’s miracle birth shows us another awe-inspiring layer to Jesus’ story.

If you’re facing deferred hope today, trust that God has redemption in store. Hold on to His promises, and like Sarah, you’ll see that “a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”

Prayer:

Father, thank you for keeping Your promises, just like You did for Sarah. I trust You’ll do the same for me. Even in tough times, I believe You’re using them for a greater purpose. I’m grateful to be a part of what brings glory to You. Amen.
