Make the most of the season by following these simple guidelines

Who are we called to be as followers of Jesus? Pastor Jen explores how the movie “One Life” challenges us to make a difference with the one life God gives us here on earth. The world is complex and heavy, but our response is simple– love God and love people!

The new season is a great reason to make and keep resolutions. Whether it’s eating right or cleaning out the garage, here are some tips for making and keeping resolutions.

Make a list

Lists are great ways to stay on track. Write down some big things you want to accomplish and some smaller things, too.


Check the list regularly

Don’t forget to check in and see how you’re doing. Just because you don’t achieve the big goals right away doesn’t mean you’re not making progress.


Reward yourself

When you succeed in achieving a goal, be it a big one or a small one, make sure to pat yourself on the back.


Think positively

Positive thinking is a major factor in success. So instead of mulling over things that didn’t go quite right, remind yourself of things that did.

Discussion Questions:

  1. In Luke 10:27, Jesus states we should love God with all our heart, soul, strength, mind, and love our neighbor as ourselves. How do you think these two commandments work together to guide our actions in difficult times?

  2. The sermon discusses how Nicholas Winton was and ordinary person who saw something he couldn’t unsee and took action. Why is it hard sometimes to step up and take action when we find ourselves in the same situation?

  3. Pastor Jen mentioned several reasons why people might “step over” needs instead of helping, including busyness, familiarity, selfishness, greed, and comfort. Which of these do you think is the biggest barrier in our society?

  4. How can fixing our eyes on Jesus rather than the chaos around us change the way we respond to difficult situations in our world?
