Monthly Focus: I can follow Jesus.

Bible Story: Matthew (Tax Collector) • Matthew 9:9-12

Main Point: Everyone can follow Jesus.

Memory Verse: “‘Come and follow me,’ Jesus said.” Matthew 4:19 NIV

This week we hear a story about a man that was disliked by many people. We are learning about Matthew who was a tax collector before he knew about Jesus. Tax collectors were not honest and disliked by all of the people. No one had a nice thing to say about tax collectors and did not want to be friends with them.

Everyone can follow Jesus, even tax collectors like Matthew. When Matthew decided to follow Jesus it changed him forever. Matthew walked away from his tax table and Jesus replaced his love for money with his love for people.

Put it into action:
Add two dolls or action figures to bath time. Tell your child to bathe his/her doll/action figure and you are going to follow what he/she does when you wash the other doll/action figure. Thank your child for showing you how to bathe your doll/action figure. Talk to your child about how God sent Jesus to show us how to love people. When we follow Jesus, He always leads us the best way.
